The Extraordinary Plant Life of the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum and Botanic Garden

May 06, 2022

An easy 15-minute drive from the Dream Inn, the Arboretum and Botanic Garden at the University of California at Santa Cruz is a Golden State leader in conservation and education. During your visit, you’ll be treated to 135 acres filled with vibrant plant species that thrive in this living museum’s Mediterranean climate. Over 300 plant families represent fauna native not just to California, but also to regions as far-flung as South Africa and Australia. In addition to the gardens dedicated to specific geographical areas, visitors can also explore the Aroma and Succulent Gardens, the brilliant Butterfly Garden, and the enchanting Eucalyptus Grove. The Arboretum and Botanic Garden are open every day from 9am to 5pm. Admission costs just $10 for adults and even less for seniors, kids, and teens. If you happen to be in town on the first Tuesday of the month, you can enjoy the gardens at no cost whatsoever, as all in the community are welcome to visit for free.
